Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717) was a daughter of german publisher and engraver Matheus Merian – author of Theatrum Europaeum i Topographien. The father died when she was 3 years old. It was her grand-father, Jakub Marell, the painter of flowers, who arouse Maria’s interest in painting, graphic art and nature. At the age of 13 she already painted first pictures of plants and insects.
Her engravings and paintings illustrating nature are highly valued in the antique market all over the world.

On the back side of the print there is an imprint with name of artist, title of picture and species of plants.
